ACCOMPLISHMENTS
“I have worked hard over the past four years to preserve our quality of life. We have made important inroads into addressing many of the challenges facing us, yet many of these issues remain with us today. I now have the experience and knowledge to bring our ongoing projects to fruition.”
• Initiated the county’s first ever
Strategic Planning Process (Compass)
• Worked in support of a good, well-balanced Surface Owner Rights Bill which was finally passed by the legislature
• Lobbying for legislation to redistribute oil and gas severance taxes so we get our fair share to deal with the impacts energy development
• Supported the development and passage of a Memorandum of Understanding with BP and other energy companies which further protects surface owners and gives the county more control over infill development
• Opposed Gov. Owens efforts to open Roadless Areas for
exploitation and lobbied for maintaining current roadless protections
• Support the protection of both Chris Park and Hermosa Park
• Sponsored resolutions and testified at both the county and state levels to protect our air quality by opposing the construction of the Desert Rock power plant
• As Vice President of CCI’s Western District, introduced and was successful in getting approval for a letter to Gov. Ritter asking for his opposition to Desert Rock
• Opposed gas drilling in the HD Mountains and brought county resolution in opposition to the drilling
• Championed the passage and revision of our Land Use Code
• Serve as Board of CC Liaison for Bayfield Senior Center
• Have been in strong support of improving relations with the Southern Ute Tribe
• Have been actively involved in city-county cooperation
• Helped facilitate negotiations for the Recreational In Channel Diversion (RICD) for recreational water rights
• Supported the development of a new Health Care District and Fire Protection District
• Facilitated negotiations for the formation of the Lake Durango Water Authority
• Encouraged and supported the adoption of the Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement by the County
• Have encouraged LEED certification for county buildings and encouraged use of sustainable building practices.
• Supported the formation of the BioDiesel movement resulting in the construction of a plant in Dove Creek.
• Pushed for the formation of the County Resource Conservation Team.
• Active supporter of the Arts in our community. Included funding for Arts Community as a line item in the county budget.
